The Optimist started with a simple question: why is it so hard to find everyday clothes that are well-made, honestly priced, and kind to the planet? We set out to answer that — one considered garment at a time.
The Founder
Built on frustration, sustained by belief.
After years working in fashion and watching perfectly good garments head to landfill each season, our founder Priya decided enough was enough. She wanted to build a brand where nothing was disposable — not the clothes, not the relationships with suppliers, and not the trust of customers.
The Optimist launched in 2022 from a small studio in Mumbai. We work directly with certified mills and artisans across India, cutting out the middlemen and putting that value back into quality and fair wages.
We call ourselves optimists not because we think everything is fine, but because we believe things can be better — and that small, deliberate choices add up.
